Breed: Pug/Poodle MixGender: Female
Story: Roxy came to me in the spring of 2012. She was 4 years old when I got her. She had been owned by a college student who graduated and moved, and could not take her.

When she first came she was barely housetrained, and did not even know "Sit" very well. I am guessing her college student did not spend much time or effort on training. She quickly learned a few basic commands, and after a few months was truly housetrained. But she seems to be always hungry, and always willing to scavenge if she can reach food that has been left out. For example, we need to never leave food on the table and turn our backs. She knows now not to touch it if we are looking, but as soon as we move to the next room, she jumps up and eats whatever she can reach.

Roxy has a sweet, quiet temperament, much gentler than her brother Luke. Luke is happy to meet all people and animals, but Roxy is much more reserved. Once she gets to know you, though, she loves to snuggle up. Her favorite sleeping place is on a bed near mine, with a fuzzy blanket bunched up in her mouth.

Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Labrador Retriever MixWeight: 30 pounds
Gender: Male
Story: In late fall of 2011-12, Luke was found outdoors, wild, in a rural area south and east of Cleveland, Ohio, and was taken in by a no-kill shelter. He seemed to be about a year old at the time. I had recently lost a dear dog to old age, and saw his picture on a rescue site. My first thought was, "That is a beautiful dog. He'll be gone by next week." He was still there a week later, and the week after that, and one more week after that. Then I thought I had better go meet him. We loved each other right away!

He loves to run and to play and to swim, and never met a food he didn't like. I suspect that is probably how he survived his wild time in the woods. Of course he loves meats, but is also fond of vegetables and fruits, especially carrots and apples. He is very snuggly, and seems to firmly believe he is a small lap dog, which can be quite comical at times. His favorite sleeping spot is cuddled up against my back.
